The superior engine promises some high octane speed, revving up 0-62mph in 3.9 seconds, with top speed pegged at 196mph.

Built to be a racing car, the specific power output for the lightweight six speed manual gearshift is 100.9 hp per liter of displacement, propelling only 6.91 lb of weight. High revs and FSI direct injection for more precise fuel metering are preferred to power up for kicks.

Audi has said in its press release that it has modeled the new sports car on its original R8. The difference for the ten cylinder model then lies in its exclusive 19-inch 10-spoke Y design wheels, its all-LED highlights and the rear diffuser.

Along the car’s body, its sideblades are also more accentuated than in the eight-cylinder model for ventilation of the larger engine. The car is kept firmly on the ground with a rear spoiler that deploys automatically at 62 mph and the fully enclosed underbody terminates in a sharply upward-curved diffuser.

The air outlets at the rear end also have only two cross-braces and the exhaust system end in two large oval tailpipes, replacing the quad exhausts on the previous version.

With its classic curved lines and spacious interior, the new R8 V10 will make its debut at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2009.

Audi has gone with a fabric roof instead of a metallic one, that unfolds electronically in 15 seconds, with an additional two seconds to fold back. Boot space increases by 60 liters with the roof up.

As for the S5, expect a fiercer version, and by that, we refer to the new supercharged 3.0-liter TFSI V6 that unleashes 333-hp for a 0-62mph sprint in 5.6seconds. Besides the seven engine choices, Audi pairs them with three different transmissions, from six-speed manual, Multitronic continuously variable transmission (for the front-wheel drive models) to the seven-speed S tronic double-clutch gearbox.
